Fr. Mark Davis is in his 24th year of pastoral service in the Diocese of Toledo. A native of South Toledo, Fr. Mark was educated at OLPH, St. John Jesuit, and the University of Notre Dame. He has always enjoyed sports, music, entertainment and being with all kinds of people. While in high school, he shared and learned about faith with people of disabilities, and worked for the New Jersey Department of Human Services in Trenton for 9 years.

During that time, he started the Office of Community Education, that helped people understand more about individuals with disabilities through puppets (“The Kids on the Block”), skits and other interactive programs. Being interested in the art of illusion since he was five, Fr. Mark has learned to share about God and our faith through stories, songs, jokes, magic effects, balloons and just about anything.

Raised by loving and devoted Catholic parents, who were both converts to that faith, Fr. Mark was also blessed with wonderful Baptist grandparents in West Virginia, who had a profound effect on his religious education and spiritual development.

Fr. Mark studied psychology and philosophy in college and started a master’s in counseling during his time in New Jersey. His innate curiosity about human nature, how the world works, and emotional health led him to begin his theological studies at St. Meinrad Seminary (southern Indiana) in 1991. Ordained in 1996, Fr. Mark was an Associate Pastor in Sandusky (Sts. Peter and Paul), Maumee (St. Joseph), and Sylvania (St. Joseph). He just finished a twelve-year run as Pastor of St. Aloysius in Bowling Green.

Having grown up on Copland Blvd. across from the “old” Beverly school, Fr. Mark feels very blessed to be “back in the neighborhood” and closer to Wixey Bakery again!

I give praise and thanks to almighty God for the gift of family and faith. Praise God! I was born and raised on the East Side of Toledo. I am the youngest of six siblings, with 3 sisters still living (a brother and sister have died.

I attended St. Louis Grade School and Holy Spirit Seminary High School in Toledo as a day student and graduated in their first graduation class in 1969. I then traveled to southern Indiana to begin my college years at Saint Meinrad College and received my B.A. from Saint Meinrad in 1973. I remained at Saint Meinrad to continue my theological training for priesthood and received my M.Div. in May.1977 and was ordained by Bishop John Donovan on June 11, 1977.

My first assignment as a priest was here at St. Patrick of Heatherdowns from July 1, 1977-June 30, 1982 as an associate pastor. From this community of faith, I learned a lot about faith, community, and love of God. From here I ventured forth to serve several hospitals as a Catholic chaplain and a pastoral staff team member (MCO, Toledo Mental Health Center & St. Luke’s Hospital).  My first pastorate was at St. Michael the Archangel Parish in North Toledo (along with hospital ministry).

I resided at St. Charles  Borromeo Parish in South Toledo while in hospital ministry and began a ministry of being an associate chaplain at the OANG in Swanton. I also was administrator of St. Charles Borromeo for six months I also returned to St. Patrick of Heatherdowns for two other stays. After 19 years of serving in the Toledo areA, I was moved to minister in the western part of our diocese (Defiance County, Paulding, Western Lucas County, Wood, Henry and Williams County for the next twenty three years at St. Michael the Archangel-St. Michael’s Ridge, St. Mary-Junction. St. Stephen-Delaware Bend, Immaculate Conception-Marysdae, St. Isiddore-Marysadale(Delaware Bend), St. Patrick-Providence, St. Louis-Custar, St. Patrick-Bryan, Sacred Heart (Montpelier).

I love my ministry as a priest, I know that it was not my decision but God’s calling that I am what I am today. I’m not a theologian, I‘m not a charismatic speaker. I’m a simple priest striving to serve the Lord and His people.
