God's Plan for Giving

Tithing is God's own idea. The divinely chosen way to contribute consistently to His work. Tithing is God's own concept of giving, It is giving the "first fruits" of your labor.

Fr. Dennis Walsh introduced tithing at all of the Masses the weekend of November 14 and 15.

Making a Charitable Gift through an IRA contribution

Looking for  creative way to make a donation to St. Patrick of Heatherdowns? Have you ever considered a charitable gift from an IRA? Once again, they are TAX FREE! As of January 6, 2010, Congress adjourned for the year without extending this provision. However, it is expected that it will be retroactively extended within the first three months of 2010. If you are considering this option, please check with your financial advisor or professional tax preparer to make sure you are able to participate in this program.

  • IRA investors who are at least 70 1/2 years old can make direct charitable transfers up to $100,000.
  • Gifts may be designated to support programs for areas of your choice, such as the Funds for the Future account or the Brogan Fund for Tuition Assistance.
  • The gift (money directly transferred to th charity, like SPH) is not included in the IRA owner's income and is not taxed. In Ohio, you also avoid paying state income tax!
  • This law is an extension of a bill signed last year and applies to distributions made through both the 2008 and 2009 tax years
