First Communion for Children
When you presented your child for Baptism, the Church asked you:
"You have asked to have your child baptized. In doing so you are accepting the responsibility of training them in the practice of the faith. It will be your duty to bring them up to keep God's commandments as Christ taught us, by loving God and our neighbor. Do you clearly understand what you are undertaking?" (The Rite of Baptism)
And as parents, you responded "We do." This responsibility did not end with the final blessing, but was just the begining of initiating them into the Catholic faith. Throughout the years you continued the process by having them attend a Catholic school or religious education program.
Our 2nd Grade Sacramental Program includes the Sacrament of Reconciliation in the fall and the Sacrament of First Holy Communion in the spring. Children may be baptized Catholic and be enrolled in either SPH Elementary School or in the Family Faith Formation program for at least one year before the sacramental year.
