Biographies

Meet our new faculty . . .

Chris Brown - Jr. High Science

I was born in Toledo and am a graduate of Anthony Wayne High School. I attended Defiance College where I majored in Science Education. I taught Biology at Waite High School last year. I am getting married to my wonderful fiancee Kristin this October and look forward to married life. Some of my hobbies include watching/playing sports, watching movies and outdoor activities like hiking and bird watching.

John Laney - Jr. High Religion

I am originally from Mogadore, Ohio. I attended Kent State where I majored in English. After converting to the Catholic faith, I continued my education, first in philosophy at Franciscan University of Steubenville, and then in theology at Walsh University. I worked as a youth minister and high school theology teacher before joining the community here at St. Patrick of Heatherdowns. I am passionate about communicating the truths of the Catholic faith to young people. In my free time, I enjoy being outdoors; especially, backpacking and hiking.

Brenda Rayfield - Jr. High Language Arts

I grew up in Fostoria, Ohio and attended Kent State University. I earned degrees in both my double majors: English Education and Theatre. I taught English in Fremont as SJCC for 11 years and for Toledo Public last year. I lived in New York City for two years. I enjoy reading, walking, and spending time with my family. My family includes my husband Grant, our daughter Zoey, and our dog Parry. We are members of the SPH parish, and enjoy being out and about in Toledo.

Janice Sager - Jr. High Math

I was born and raised in Toledo, attended St. Patrick of Heatherdowns and then McAuley High School. I received a BE in Mathematics from The University of Toledo. After teaching Technical Math and Technical Communications for 7 years at what is now known as Penta Career Center, I stayed home to raise my two children. Shaun is 12 and Bethany 10 and both attend St. Pat's. I returned to teaching last year and held a part-time position as the middle school Math and Algebra instructor at St. Joseph's School in Maumee.

I have helped coach both my son's and daughter's basketball teams and am an avid sports fan. Not only do I love sports, but I'm also an animal lover. Shaun, Bethany and I share our home with Goldie (a Labradoodle), Teddy (a Corgi), and Casper (our pampered house cat). I am very excited to join the staff at my alma mater, St. Patrick of Heatherdowns!
